Hi Everyone,
I've been doing stains, overlays, and coatings for the past 5 years and am interested in getting into polishing. I've polished one floor so far with good results it was a friend's place and only about 400'. We rented a Lavina and polished to 3500

My question is about a machine. I have to opportunity to buy a used HTC 420VS 110v with a set of 1/2 way used diamonds for $3500. The contractor is very experienced and is willing to spend a couple of days with me on a project.

Is this a good deal or should I be looking at a larger machine to start with. My projects usually top out at 1500-2000' Thanks in advance for any advice!

The 420 is a well built machine, I found it to be a great grinding, and prep machine. Not enough weight in it to polish I think cause it weights only 89 kg.

Thanks for the advice.  With that said, is there a machine I would be better off starting with?

If you are looking for a

If you are looking for a single phase machine the Husqvarna PG530 is an excellent option

The Lavina 25 is also a great machine. If you are opting for the Lavina 25 I would recommend waiting a couple of months for the next shipment hitting the US. The new machines will all be active planetary instead of the passive planetary on the current machines..

We have machines available in our fleet if you wanted to rent before buying.

Lavina pro 21 or the 25 They are great machines for the money and do a great job grinding and polishing. The 21 pro can be moved around and in and out of a truck with two guys which is nice. Bedrock sells diamond for the all machines and you can check us out at www.bedrocksupplies.com

Since you are new to our DCF forum I need to bring to your attention that Terms and Conditions related to posting clearly state that there is to be "no self-promotion" by manufacturers or their agents (ie: tools, equipment, supplies, decorative concrete related products/systems, sealers, coatings, etc) or contractor supply house "unless they are Sponsors of our DCF or paying for advertising in our "Market Place" section (if you scan down to this are you will see what I am making reference to; cost being $75.00 a month, on a month to month basis to do so). If we allowed manufacturers or traded related suppliers to freely promote the materials/products/equipment/etc that they offer this site would be blocked up with "look at me" instead of being a valuable trade related resource for contractor to refer to if/when they need insights form their peers, have a problem/issue they need help resolving, are seeking a technique to successfully accomplish what they are set out to do. This is not saying that manufacturers can't respond, providing the value ot their knowledge in specific areas of expertise, but they (you) can not do so adding links or by your company name (deemed as promotional way) without paying for the privledge to do so before our thousands of contractor/members. If you would like for me to send you our "advertising/promotional menu" (has numerous month to month options, as well as all inclusive ones and banner ads, please drop me an email message Lindy.Ausburne@gmail.com or call my direct DCF line 254-212-5536 that is shown at the top of every forum page. Contractors are allowed to state their opinions in reference to materials they use or suggest them to other contractors in order to achieve success, longevity, create a particular type of surface, share techniques, help each other resolve issues/concerns, etc. since they have no "vested interest in doing so" (as is not the case with manufacturers and suppliers who make their money off of selling, renting, etc. to contractors).

Please edit you above post, and all the others you have posted over the past couple of days, removing the reference to your company (Bedrock) and the website "link" within it, you're doing so will demonstrate your understanding of our terms/conditions of posting and you will be welcome back into general conversations here. Thank you Note: if you fail to do so, the post will be removed as will all others that make reference to Bedrock (now or in the future) that are considered promotional/without paying for the opportunity to do so as an advertiser in the Market Place or site Sponsor.

Propane Grinders

Good Morning, New Guy here.. we are looking to purchase a grinder to do floor prep and possibly polish in the future, does anyone have any input on propane grinders vs electric or more specifically on the new Lavina line? We have been looking at HTC (very pricey), Inovatech and Lavina, Lavina seems to be the best price but still around 17K for a 30 inch propane unit and 15K for the 25 inch.. Big investment, don't mind paying just want to make sure I get  the most bang for my buck and don't want a machine I'll hate for the next 5 years.. Can anyone help a Brother out??

007, There a number of

007,

There a number of great machines on the market, but not every machine is right for every application and project.

With some more information we may be able to point you in the right direction...

What is your target project size, what kind of work do you typically do?

As for the propane vs electric argument, I prefer electric. You are guaranteed that your equipment will work on every project. Sure you might have to use a generator, but your grinder is quieter, runs smoother, and isnt emitting any fumes.

If you are interested in trying before you purchase we offer several different machines in our rental fleet here at Bay Equipment in Virginia and can provide you with demonstrations.

Feel free to call or email me if you would like to discuss further b . a @ bayequip.com (no spaces) or (757) 449-3386.
